Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying

Verstappen takes Canadian Grand Prix pole in wet qualifying

Coats and umbrellas were out as Max Verstappen took pole position for the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix in wet and windy conditions.

The Red Bull driver, who has won the last two races, will be joined on the front row by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will start third for Mercedes.

Qualifying was delayed by 20 minutes due to the weather, and the track was still wet when the cars went out on track.

Verstappen was immediately on the pace, setting the fastest time in the first sector. He continued to improve his time in the second and third sectors, and eventually took pole position by a margin of 0.362 seconds.

Sainz was also impressive in the wet conditions, and he finished just 0.054 seconds behind Verstappen.

Hamilton was third fastest, but he was over half a second behind Verstappen.

Verstappen's pole position is his third in a row, and it gives him a great chance of winning the Canadian Grand Prix for the second time.

The race will start at 2100 BST on Sunday.
